This article will introduce ferromanganese balls-spherical alloy products with manganese as the primary component. Produced by smelting and processing manganese ore, they are often incorporated with other alloying elements. Boasting excellent deoxidization and desulfurization properties, these balls can enhance the strength, toughness and corrosion resistance of steel materials. Widely applied in steelmaking, casting and other industries, they serve as a critical additive for upgrading the performance of metallic materials.
Ferromanganese balls are mainly used in the production of stainless steel, high-manganese steel, heat-resistant steel, tool steel and non-ferrous alloys. They also serve as raw materials for manufacturing soft magnetic materials (high-purity MnCO₃, Mn₃O₄), and as ingredients in electrode coatings and diamond catalysts.
Composition & Classification
Based on manganese content, ferromanganese balls are categorized into multiple grades, including those with manganese content below 75%, ≥75%, ≥85% and ≥95%.
Physical Properties
They are typically silver-gray with a metallic luster, featuring a melting point of approximately 1244℃, a boiling point of around 1962℃ and a density ranging from 7.21 to 7.44g/cm³.
Performance Characteristics
It possesses excellent deoxidation and desulfurization properties, capable of removing sulfur, oxygen and other impurities from steel. Additionally, it can enhance the strength, toughness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance of steel materials.
Production Process
Generally, it is manufactured from manganese powder or manganese ore through processes such as high-temperature reduction. Firstly, the manganese ore undergoes reduction treatment, followed by processes like high-temperature sintering to form it into spherical shapes.
Application Fields
It is widely used in the steel industry as a crucial additive for producing alloy steel, stainless steel, wear-resistant steel, etc. In ferroalloy production, it is used for manufacturing ferromanganese, silicomanganese alloy and other products. In the battery manufacturing field, it can be applied to the production of lithium-ion batteries and alkaline batteries. Furthermore, it can serve as a catalyst or reaction medium in certain chemical reactions.
