Selection of High-Purity Calcium Ingots: For the production of pure calcium wire, calcium ingots with a purity of no less than 98% are adopted as the raw material. Calcium ingots are typically fabricated via electrolysis or thermal reduction processes, with those produced through electrolysis exhibiting superior purity. The content of impurity elements (e.g., iron, aluminum, silicon) in the raw materials is subject to strict control, as these impurities can adversely affect the mechanical properties and metallurgical performance of the calcium wire.
Surface Treatment: A layer of oxide film or nitride film is commonly present on the surface of calcium ingots, which must be removed by means of mechanical grinding or chemical cleaning. This step is of paramount importance to the subsequent processing performance, given that surface contaminants may result in fracture during the wire-drawing process.
Preheating Treatment: Prior to processing, calcium ingots require preheating at a temperature range of 150-200℃ for a duration of 2-4 hours. This process serves to alleviate internal stress and enhance plasticity. Preheating is generally conducted under the protection of argon or nitrogen to inhibit the oxidation of calcium upon contact with air.
