Silicon manganese nitride is a ferroalloy composite additive integrating three elements: nitrogen, silicon and manganese, mainly applied in the smelting of high-strength low-alloy steel and microalloyed steel.
Core Properties
CompositionIt is typically composed of manganese, silicon, nitrogen and a small amount of iron, with the typical component range as follows: Mn 50%~65%, Si 15%~25%, N 3%~6%. Specific indicators can be customized according to steelmaking requirements.
Metallurgical Functions
Alloying effect: It can simultaneously add manganese, silicon and nitrogen into molten steel, replacing traditional single additives such as ferromanganese, ferrosilicon and manganese nitride, which simplifies the steelmaking process and reduces production costs.
Grain refinement: Nitrogen combines with alloying elements in steel to form nitrides, which hinder the growth of austenite grains, significantly refine the grain structure of steel, and improve the strength, toughness and weldability of steel products.
Deoxidation and desulfurization: Silicon has strong deoxidizing capacity, while manganese can react with sulfur to form MnS, reducing the content of oxygen and sulfur impurities in molten steel and improving the purity of molten steel.

It is mainly used in the production of high-end steel products such as high-strength structural steel, pipeline steel, automotive steel and engineering machinery steel.
It is suitable for various steelmaking processes including converter and electric furnace, and can be added via methods like tundish feeding during casting or cored wire injection into the ladle.
